The City of Jacksonville Beach operates under a Council-Manager form of government which operates similar to a corporation. The City Council functions as the Board of Directors, making policy with legislative authority; the Mayor acts as the Chairman of the Board, and the City Manager acts as the Chief Operating Officer running the daily operation of the city.
After surviving the coldest winter on record in South Dakota, he decided to move to Florida in 1979. After six years he moved to the Las Vegas metropolitan area in Boulder City, home of Hoover Dam and located on Lake Meade. Ten years later, George decided he would like to move back to Florida in 1995.
George says in his career he has moved from the arctic, to the subtropics, then to the desert and back to the future in Florida. George loves boating and used to own a sailboat.
George has been married 35 years to Monica, who is a CPA and also works in Jacksonville Beach. They have one daughter, Amanda, who graduated from the University of Central Florida and works in Orlando.
He was number three in the first Draft lottery and likes to say that is still the only thing he has ever won in his life. He served two years in the Army in Ansback, Germany with the 2/28th artillery battalion. George was a soldier of the quarter and also received the Army Commendation Medal.
