Lieutenant John McDaniel, Training/Safety Lieutenant
The Training Division is led by the Training/Safety Lieutenant. The Training Lieutenant serves as advisor and instructor for much of the department's training that is mandated either by the state and/or federal law or national standard making organizations. The Training Lieutenant provides an organized calendar of training events for use by company officers and is directly responsible for coordinating and tracking all certifications and recertification requirements for firefighters, EMT's, and paramedics. He is also responsible for EMS quality assurance and reviews monthly medical run reports for accuracy and care. The Training Lieutenant assists members with registering for additional training opportunities outside the department and manages the training budget. The Training Lieutenant conducts new recruit quarterly assessments and Auxiliary member monthly training.
As Safety Lieutenant, he is responsible for the identification and correction of safety and health hazards. The Safety Lieutenant responds to structural fires and any large scale incident to serve as an on scene safety officer. The Safety Lieutenant also serves as the Chairman of the City Safety Committee as well as the Fire Department Safety Committee.
Some of our training includes:
"It's not enough to train until we get it right; we must train until we can't get it wrong."
