The General Investigations Unit is comprised of one detective sergeant, one corporal, three detectives, and a senior secretary. Detectives assigned to this team investigate crimes that require substantial commitments of time to complete, including theft, burglary, robbery, and murder. Detectives also maintain intelligence information to assist investigators and the Patrol Division in their job assignments.
Detectives not only work cases, but are also on-call seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day. Not all investigations that are referred to the Detective Division are assigned to a detective. The investigations have to meet certain solvability factors in order to be assigned to a detective, and not all cases are solved. Those that are not solved are suspended until new information is available.
