If an unlicensed pet is picked up it will be taken to the Jacksonville Beach Animal Control Building and housed in a special pet area for up tp three days. Upon arrival pets will be given food, water and weather appropriate comforts. Unlicensed pets are held for three (3) days and are then transferred to the Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services. Any licensed dog or cat committing a nuisance or found running at large shall be picked up by the city or the designated authorized agent of the city and placed in a shelter for a period not to exceed seven (7) days. After seven days licensed animals will be transferred to the Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services.
Owners are required to pay all fees and fines associated with pets before they can be released home.
Payments of violations
Payment for fines and boarding can be made at Police Records.
Picking up your pet
To pick up your pet you must present the following to the Animal Control Officer:
- State Id with current address.
- Current rabies vaccination record.
- Receipts of payment for all fines, citations, and boarding costs.
- Jacksonville Beach tags.
- Collar or harness and lead.

Boarding under quarantine
The circumstances of your case may require your pet to be placed under quarantine. When this happens your pet will be held for 10 days or longer depending on your case.
Pet visitation is by appointment only and prior approval must be given by the ACO. You are welcome to leave your own food and special needs for your pet such as a blanket, bedding or toy. The fine amounts cannot be adjusted for items you provide your pet.
