Special Magistrate Hearings are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month, or as needed, at 2:00 p.m., in the Council Chambers, 11 North 3rd Street, Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

Overview

The Special Magistrate shall have the power to:

• Subpoena alleged violators and witnesses to appear at hearings
• Subpeona evidence
• Take testimony under oath
• Issue Orders having the force of law to command whatever steps are necessary to bring a violation into compliance
• Issue Findings of Fact, based on evidence of record and conclusions of law

Code enforcement primarily focuses on administering and enforcing minimum requirements for the maintenance of property, in accordance with the City's property maintenance code. Such activities include:

• Housing code violations [Contact Code Enforcement]
• Private property nuisances
• Sign controls
• Removal of junked or abandoned property
• Tree removal permits
• Extended hours permit violations
• Dangerous dogs
