About the K-9 Unit
The Jacksonville Beach Police Department currently has two dual trained patrol service dog teams serving approximately 22,000 citizens and covering eight square miles. Because of mutual aid agreements with other local agencies, the K9 teams also assist in searching for and apprehending criminal offenders and searching for illegal drugs in the surrounding area.
K9 teams are attached to the Patrol Division and assigned to a patrol squad. They are directly supervised by a patrol supervisor and conduct normal patrol operations when not employing their patrol service dog.
Public Demonstrations
Both K-9 teams conduct demonstrations for the general public to educate them on the capabilities of the patrol service dog.
