Building Inspection Division

Overview

The Building Inspection Division is responsible for inspecting the construction of all new buildings, structures, and additions or renovations to existing buildings and structures to ensure they conform to approved plans and permits and comply with state and local building code requirements. Some of the division's responsibilities include:

  • Processing construction plans
  • Issuing building permits
  • Florida Building Code inspections
  • Review and approval of new construction permit applications
  • Review and approval of remodeling and other miscellaneous building activities
  • Review and approval of permits for signage

Notices to Contractors

Effective January 1, 2018, a change occured to the Florida Building Code (FBC). As of that date, all permit applications and plans submitted must comply with the 6th Edition (2017) of the Florida Building Code. The current code and prior editions may be found online here

EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2018, the local single family residence $5000 annual exemption (originally utilized in October 2013), is being rescinded.

Effective July 1, 2017, a Blower Door Test Form (BDTF) is to be completed by an approved tester. The BDTF is to be provided to the building inspector at the final inspection.

Effective May 9, 2014, inspection requests called in no later than 4:00pm, Monday through Friday will be completed the following business day.

A copy of a recorded Notice of Commencement is required for projects valued over $2500 or for direct repair/replacement of an existing heating or air conditioning sytem valued over $7500.
