Overview
The Building Inspection Division's primary responsibility is to inspect all buildings, structures, and facilities within City limits to protect the public health, safety, and general welfare by ensuring compliance with state and local building code regulations. Some of the activites related to enforcing the Florida Building Code include:

Effective August 31, 2020, in accordance with Florida Statutes, certain permit applications may be submitted electronically. We are working to streamline this process and decrease the number of visits an applicant needs to make to obtain required permits.

Notice to Contractors
The effective date for the 7th Edition (2020) Florida Building Codes and the 2017 National Electrical Code is December 31, 2020. All applications submitted on, or after, December 31, 2020 shall be designed in accordance with the 7th Edition (2020) Florida Building Code for Building, Residential, Existing Building, Energy Conservation, Fuel Gas, Mechanical, Plumbing, and/or the 2017 National Electrical Code. EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2018, the local single family residence $5000 annual exemption (originally utilized in October 2013), is being rescinded.
Effective July 1, 2017, a Blower Door Test Form (BDTF) is to be completed by an approved tester. The BDTF is to be provided to the building inspector at the final inspection.
Effective May 9, 2014, inspection requests called in no later than 4:00pm, Monday through Friday will be completed the following business day.
A copy of a recorded Notice of Commencement is required for projects valued over $2500 or for direct repair/replacement of an existing heating or air conditioning sytem valued over $7500.
