School Bus Safety

SCHOOL BUS SAFETY

Before you WALK or ROLL Back 2 School, let’s talk about a #SafeRoute to get there! This page will touch on school bus safety!

Do I need to stop if I’m driving a vehicle? What about when I’m waiting for a bus? How do I stay safe? The FDOT has tips for everyone to stay safe! Here’s some of those tips for those driving a vehicle! TWO LANE: vehicles traveling in both directions MUST stop. MULTI-LANE PAVED ACROSS: vehicles traveling in both directions MUST stop. DIVIDED ROADWAY: on a highway divided by a median, cars traveling in opposite directions are not required to stop but should proceed with caution.

The penalties for failure to stop for a school bus double.

The penalty for failure to stop for a school bus goes from a minimum $100 to $200 and if a second offense is committed in 5 years, your license will be suspended for up to 1 year.

The penalty for passing a school bus on the side that children enter and exit when the school bus displays a stop signal goes from a minimum of $200 to $400 and if a second offense is committed in 5 years, your license can be suspended up to 2 years. Your phone must be hands-free in a school zone.

When you are standing waiting for a bus to arrive, you should always stay FIVE giant steps away from the road! Wear bright colors and put your phone down!
