Can I keep my vehicle on my property if it does not have a license tag or if it does not run?: No, all vehicles must have a current tag, good tires and must be operable. Untagged, nonoperable vehicles can only be stored in an enclosed building. (Chapter 14, Article II, Junked, Abandoned Vehicles)

To report a potential code violation please send Code Enforcement an email request or submit an online request for service.
To report unregistered short-term rental units and filing noise, parking, trash, and other nuisance complaints related to short-term rental properties, submit an online request for service.

A code enforcement inspector will inspect the property and determine if a violation exists.
If a violation exists, the property owner may be contacted but is most likely sent a notice of violation via USPS Certified Mail. The notice of violation contains the specific code section and the nature of the violation, and a reasonable time period to correct the violation.
If the violation is not corrected, the violation may be referred to the Special Magistrate for a hearing.
The Special Magistrate will hear testimony from the City and the property owner, and determine if, in fact, a violation exists.
If the Special Magistrate finds the property owner is in violation of City Ordinances, an order may be issued and/or a fine imposed upon the property owner of record.

3. Can I remove a tree from my property?: Many types of trees within our city are protected and cannot be removed without a permit. It pays to check first. A fine can be assessed for removing a protected tree without a permit. Unless specifically listed as an "unprotected tree", any tree that has a diameter of six inches or more is protected and may not be removed except as provided in Section 34-425 of the Land Development Code (PDF). To remove a protected tree, please submit a Tree Removal Application (PDF) to our department for review. If the proposed tree meets the criteria for removal, a tree removal permit will be issued accordingly.

4. Can I park a boat or a trailer in my driveway?: Only boats less than 20 feet can be parked in a driveway. Hauling trailers, travel trailers, RV campers, commercial vehicles and boat's over 20 feet must be stored behind the front yard setback. (LDC Section 34-402)

6. Do I need a permit to cut down a tree?: Yes! It is a no-charge permit and an inspector needs to verify that the tree is diseased, dead or dying tree. The only trees not needing a permit is a palm or pine tree. (LDC Section 34-424)

8. How tall can my grass be before it would be a violation?: Grasses, weeds and other untended growth can not be in excess of 10 inches. (Section 19-2)

9. Can my neighbor store piles of junk, boxes and totes outside?: No, trash, debris, junk such as furniture, appliances, paper, plastics, building materials, glass, cans, or any other material that could be considered a nuisance may not accumulate on property. (Section 19-2)

10. How many people can live in a rental house?: Any number of individuals relating by blood, marriage or legal adoption and no more than 4 unrelated people can live together as a single household unit. (LDC Section 34-41(family))

11. Can I replace my fence without a permit?: No, a permit is required to replace a fence. You will also need a copy of your property survey indicating where the fence is going.

12. Can I have a Portable Storage Container (POD) on my property?: A POD is allowed if there is an active building permit.
