2. How do I report stolen or found property?

To report an item stolen or found within the City of Jacksonville Beach, please call the Communications Center's non-emergency phone number at 904-270-1661. Please have descriptive information ready which may include the item's make, model, and/or serial number.

3. How can I find out if you are holding my property?

Appointments are required for all property releases.

The best way to find property once it is lost or stolen is to have up-to-date records, pictures or video noting serial and model numbers, if available, or to place an "Owner Applied Number" on items that do not have a serial number. Unique numbers make identifying and matching items to the rightful owner more simple; however, if this information is not available, a detailed description could be helpful.

Before calling 904-247-6196 to inquire if the Property Room is holding your property, please have the following information available:

• What is the property type and description?
• What is the Serial Number or Owner Applied Number?
• Where and When was the item lost or stolen?
• Was the loss reported, and, if yes, what is the case number?
• Did you receive a phone call or letter notifying you of the recovery?

4. How can I pick up my property?

Appointments are required for all property releases. Call the Property Room at 904-247-6196 to set up a date and time to pick up your property.

Some items of property will require special handling instructions. You must be prepared to remove the property at the time of your appointment.

Before your property can be released, you will need to provide the following to the Property Officer:

• Valid state-issued identification;
• Case number, if known; and
• Proof of ownership - or - power of attorney if you are picking up someone else's property.

If picking up a firearm and you have a concealed carry permit, bring the permit with you. If you do not have a permit you will have to pass a background check in order to pick up the firearm. Ammo can’t be released the same day with the firearm. You will need to make another appointment to pick up the ammo.

Pending Cases

If you are a defendant and your case is pending:

Contact your attorney or assigned council to request a property release from the Prosecutor’s Office. Once that release has been obtained, contact the Property Room to schedule an appointment.

Closed Cases

If you are a victim or a defendant on a closed case:

Contact the Officer or Detective assigned to your case to request the property to be released. Once that release has been obtained, contact the Property Room to schedule an appointment.

5. If I am arrested, what happens to my property?

If the owner is incarcerated, and the property is taken for safekeeping, the property will be held for 60 days. If the owner advises that he/she can not retrieve the property within 60 days, the Property Room may extend the duration of safekeeping.

6. What happens to found property if an owner is not located?

Depending on the item's condition, after 90 days the item will either be disposed of or auctioned in accordance with state law.
