Assistive Listening Systems

Portable Countertop Induction Loop

The City of Jacksonville Beach is pleased to announce that it offers a portable countertop induction loop located in City Hall primarily at the Customer Care counter. If you are visiting the City Clerk’s office or the Planning and Development department, we are also happy to make this accommodation available upon request.

The portable countertop induction loop system readily accommodates individuals with hearing difficulties by picking up external voices with an integrated microphone and emitting them via the integrated induction loop, thus amplifying sound and reducing background noise. The signals emitted in this way can be received by a hearing aid that is set to the ‘T’, ‘MT’, or loop position.

To connect to the device, simply switch your hearing aid to its ‘T’, ‘MT’, or loop position.

NEW to Council Chambers!

In January 2025, the City of Jacksonville Beach installed an infrared hearing loop, an assistive listening system for people with hearing loss, in Council Chambers. The loop provides clear, customized sound for people whose use hearing aids or cochlear implants with telecoils. This system decreases background noise by sending the sound directly into the hearing instruments when listeners easily switch to their telecoil program. People who don’t use hearing aids or who don’t have telecoils in their hearing aids can borrow a receiver and headphones from the City Clerk’s office at no cost. Alternatively, users may bring personal wired headphones to plug into the borrowed receiver (3.5mm jacks). The receivers have a volume control knob.
