Address Numbering System

Addresses are issued to structures and occupancies, rather than to the land that they occupy. Preliminary addressing may be requested in anticipation of proposed development for properties within Jacksonville Beach City Limits.

Assignment of building numbers. The Planning Director's Designee is responsible for issuing notices to owners and occupants where current property addresses conflict within a grid numbering system.

Grid numbering system. This system is based on a zero base point located at Beach Boulevard and the Atlantic Ocean, proceeding outward on a horizontal and vertical axis.

  1. Numbers shall increase north and south from Beach Boulevard and westerly from the Atlantic Ocean.
  2. Numbers are assigned to buildings as determined by the grid system and approved by the Planning Director.  Variations from this system may be made when appropriate.
  3. Odd numbers are issued to buildings on the north and east sides of public or private streets. Even numbers are issued to buildings on the south and west sides of public or private streets. The assignment of numbers for corner or dual street frontage lots will be issued based upon the most direct Emergency Response route from the roadway.

Address Posting Requirements

Per the Florida Fire Prevention Code, new and existing buildings shall post approved address numbers in Arabic numerals or alphabet letters that contrast with their background in a position that is visible from the street or road fronting the property.
